Pilates Instructor Training
Many Pilates instructor training programs exist in Australia, so what makes the PET program different? In an industry that is, by most standards, new and fledging, Pilates is an emergent field lacking government regulation and standardisation. As a consequence many commercial entities, both local and international, advertise Pilates education and can potentially confuse interested participants.
Pilates Excellence in Training has partnered with Tensegrity Training (RTO Code 60182) and offers the government accredited Integrated Diploma in Contemporary Pilates and Teaching Methodology (52625WA). Successful completion of the program facilitates membership with the Australian Pilates Method Association (APMA) and is recognised by ESSA. The APMA is the self-regulating industry body established in 1996 with the purpose of developing industry safety, standards and instructor quality assurance.
The curriculum offered through PET aims to ground the student in the Pilates methodology as developed by its creator, Joseph Pilates, whilst integrating the modern approaches to exercise and movement that have emerged from research findings and teaching approaches. The course focuses on the principles, history and philosophies forming the program foundation. From this a sound biomechanical knowledge of the repertoire is developed, allowing for exercise construction and deconstruction as required to tailor a session specifically to the participant. The course aims to equip the student with skills and tools required of a teacher and provide a solid comprehension about the common complaints that present in the Australian Pilates studio setting. Many educational programs take the Pilates practitioners so far and then leave them to enhance their skills and knowledge through their teaching experience. At PET, we recognise that the Pilates practitioners gain so much vitality in their teaching through advanced repertoire exploration or by delving into allied modalities that can inform our work. We run programs on a regular basis, that also usually accrue APMA CEC points, to build off the Pilates teachers foundation education and springboard them to greater depths of expertise, skill and knowledge. Assistance in acquiring APMA Recognition
Many educational pathways exist to become a Pilates teacher, not all of which are recognised programs of the APMA and facilitate membership with the association. In order to protect our industry, as Australian Pilates mentors committed to industry standardisation, Larissa and Brad encourage all Pilates teacher to be members of the professional body the APMA. That being said, they also recognise how daunting the assessment process to facilitate membership can be. It is through their experience with other applicants that they have developed the “NRE Preparation Program”, that will assess your current skills and knowledge, and then provide tailored education to provide the tools and skills to fill any competency gaps, so that you may confidently complete the theoretical and practical assessment process of the APMAs national registration exam (NRE).
